A New ApproachGreenSteam™ is based on two fundamental facts. First, that the relations between the fuel efficiency of a ship and various conditions affecting that efficiency are complex. Second, that these conditions change dynamically with time.
Therefore, an approach is called for that does not ignore these facts, but rather exploits them. That is why GreenSteam™ starts by ‘going onboard’ to collect a multitude of sensor readings over a prolonged period of time, in order to form a picture of these dynamically changing conditions and changes in fuel efficiency.
When enough data has been collected, mathematical models are then built that uncover the knowledge that is contained in the data, although hidden to the naked eye. The relations between the ship’s speed and energy use and a range of internal and external factors are learned through the use of sophisticated, specially developed software that forms a core part of GreenSteam™.
Obtained from this is a system that is able to provide continuously updated advice on optimal settings of controls. GreenSteam™ is able to react dynamically to changes in the ship’s condition and environment, thereby making it possible to always operate with the greatest possible fuel efficiency. Every second, the current conditions are measured and input to the operational GreenSteam™ system that immediately finds a new setting for e.g. trim and propeller RPM that is optimal in the current situation. This advice is continuously supplied to the user interface on the bridge.
The collected data may also reveal important, previously unseen knowledge about the energy dynamics of the vessel. Detailed fuel and CO2 reports can also be generated for the ship. GreenSteam™ provides a high-quality, high-frequency database that contains a wealth of information about the operational history of the ship.
